Revelstoke Development News - June 28, 2001

What's Happening at the Economic Development Office?
With the recent resignation of our Economic Development Commissioner, Doug Weir (who is now working with CUSO in Vanuatu), economic development activities are being handled by City staff and contract consultants.

District Energy Project:
Geoff Battersby has been retained to oversee the next phase of planning for the District Energy Project.

The 'Invitation for Expressions of Interest' closed on June 8 with seven prominent companies/consortia submitting high quality proposals. Over the next month the submissions will be reviewed using professional help as needed, in order to select the best submissions meeting the needs of the project. We will work closely with the parties selected to develop the additional information base needed for providing detailed submissions. Our overall goal is to have a "GO / NO GO" decision on the project by year end with construction beginning in 2002 if it is a "GO".

The "Invitation" can be viewed at www.cityofrevelstoke.com under 'What's New'. Copies are also available at City Hall.

Snowmobile Strategy:

Debra Wozniak is working with the Revelstoke Snowmobile Club, the Revelstoke Snowmobile Society and other tourism industry stakeholders to prepare a five year development strategy for managing growth resulting from the popularity of Revelstoke as a premier snowmobile destination.

Gateway Project:
This highly visible landmark feature is located at the Victoria Rd and Trans Canada Hwy intersection. It is designed to capture the interest of travellers and attract them to stop in Revelstoke and enjoy our heritage and natural beauty.

Victoria Road Signage:
This is a marketing opportunity for businesses which are not located on Victoria Rd and are not in the original revite area. These attractive enhancement units (right) will eliminate signage on lamp-posts. Three units will be located at the intersections on Third St, Boyle Ave. & Kootenay St.
