New
Info Centre Location
This Spring has been a busy one at the Chamber. With the demise of the
Trans Canada Highway ‘Visitor InfoCentre’, an alternate location was
required. A new location was secured in the heart of Grizzly Plaza. With
no economically viable options available on the highway, this prime
city-central location was chosen. The space is far larger than the
previous building. The InfoCentre boasts a comprehensive brochure
display section, large u-shaped service counter and a souvenir shop. As
well, this location has a Community Access Computer kiosk. Take some
time to stop in and look it over. The City of Revelstoke has been a
great help posting directional signs along Victoria and Townley St. As
well, the Columbia Basin Trust provided funding to produce two 24’ x 4’
directional informational signs which are attached to the Railway Museum
signs west and east of the City. We are closely monitoring the
performance of this location and, at the same time, are looking at
possible location options on the Trans Canada Highway.
BC
Chamber AGM
Recently, Chamber President Norman Langlois and I attended the BC
Chamber of Commerce AGM in Courtenay. Many issues were debated in the
areas of education and health care as a couple of examples. The
Chamber’s position on the privatization of the Coquihalla Highway was
also discussed. The overwhelming consensus was that the highway remain
the responsibility of the government and not be given out to a 55 year
contract. The full book of BC Chamber resolutions should be available
this Summer for inspection.
Promotional CD ROM - 2nd Edition
The Columbia Basin Trust Community Initiatives Program awarded the
Chamber $14,000 to help create a series of updated CD ROMs for the
Chamber and Economic Development. These will be developed over the next
several months and target consumers looking for information, travel
trade wholesalers and tour operators, media and potential investors in
Revelstoke.
Upcoming Ministerial Visits
In September, two BC Government Ministers will be in Revelstoke on
separate occasions. Solicitor General Rich Coleman will address a
Chamber Members Meeting and Minister Stan Hagen will address the
‘Communities on the Working Forests’. More details will be available
soon. Call the Chamber at 837-5345 for dates and times. We are open 8:30
to 4:30 Monday – Friday.
