Community Skills Centre - Year in Review
The 2000-2001 year was again a challenging but relatively successful year for the Revelstoke Community Skills Centre Society. The Society continued to provide a range of training and employment services in the community, and carried out several community and employment development projects. The Board was especially proud of the fact that the Society was able to invest over $43,000 in the community to assist our residents to access training and educational opportunities which would not otherwise have been available. This investment in the community constitutes a major accomplishment for the Society over the past year.

A summary of the major accomplishments for the year are listed below:

  • 686 participants attended a wide range of training programs
  • provided assistance to 13,938 visitors at the Community Career Centre
  • assisted 305 clients to obtain employment through job placement and assisted job search programs
  • assisted 147 students to find summer employment
  • delivered career and employment information sessions to 398 B.C. Benefits clients
  • continued operation of the Revelstoke Distance Education Centre in partnership with Okanagan University College
  • planned and implemented a Job Creation Project under contract to Human Resources Development Canada
  • in partnership with other community agencies, acted as the proponent for the creation of a community economic and social development strategy
  • continued the development of the Womens' Business Initiative project, including the opening of a small woodworking shop

The Society looks forward to providing a range of services and programs needed in the community over the next twelve months.
