Remember BCRIC Shares?
How many of us remember the BCRIC
shares that were issued at the rate of 5 per citizen by the Social
Credit government in the late 1970's? It turns out that they are still
redeemable. If you still have yours, the Revelstoke Community Foundation
can issue you a receipt for them - on request, at $0.56 per share, and
you will have the attendant tax savings - a value for share certificates
that you thought weren't even good for wallpaper.
The Foundation has
accumulated about 1750 shares to date. So, if you still have the
certificates, please dig them out and bring them to the office at the
Enterprise Centre, or phone Geoff Battersby at 250 837 5345 or 250 837
4540 and he will pick them up. We will hold them in trust while we are
accumulating sufficient numbers of them for redemption.
Are you up to this
Challenge?
W. Earl Campbell [RSS
1948], a former Revelstokian, has issued an interesting challenge
focused on improving the Revelstoke Secondary School scholarship
situation. He has committed to matching scholarship fund donations up to
$2,500 with the offer expiring on December 31, 2002. We sincerely
appreciate Mr. Campbell's generous initiative.
This is an
opportunity not to be missed, folks, so please "take the bait". Just
indicate 'The Campbell Challenge" on your donation. Of course, all
donations are receipted for income tax deduction purposes.
