![]() These are the great volunteers who turned out for the 2006 Volunteer
Fair and Award Night at the Revelstoke Community Centre and Awards Night
on September 19. Their dedication helps make our city a great place to
live!
What makes a great volunteer? There are -- as almost any active volunteer can tell you -- several characteristics. Great volunteers are generous with their time. Great volunteers believe that what they do matters to themselves, to their organizations and, ultimately the greater community as a whole. Great volunteers work well with other people but are also self-starters -- people who whole-heartedly throws themselves into the work at hand, whether it is organizing a Christmas bazaar, working with children or seniors, selling tickets for a raffle or building a float for a holiday parade. Great volunteers are creative and practical; they not only have great ideas they know how to translate them into reality. Great volunteers are patient. They know that not everybody works in the same way and that some people need help to get going. Great volunteers understand that they are best ambassadors their groups can have. And that they are also ambassadors for the entire community. On this page you'll meet many great volunteers -- men and women who believe in what they are doing and, in the process, help make Revelstoke such a terrific place to live. |
